Goals: Tips on How to Set Them and Achieve Them

Goals should not be set only at the start of a new year, BUT right now is a fantastic time to reflect and look ahead at where you'd like to be, how you'd like to feel, and what you'd like to achieve. Here are some tips I use to help myself set goals here at the start of the new year and throughout the year.

Goal Setting: Make them S.M.A.R.T

Specific: make sure your goals are specific and clearly defined

Measurable: in what ways can you track progress?

Attainable: keep your goals realistic. They should be a stretch and make you slightly uncomfortable but nonetheless realistically achievable.

Relevant: is your goal relevant to you, your path, who you are?

Time: set a date for achieving your goal

Tip: Take a piece of paper and divide it into quadrants.

Top Left: personal goals

Top Right: fitness goals

Bottom Left: business/career goals

Bottom Right: financial goals

Now, if you are all set and feel no blockages, write them goals down!

But what if you feel blockages? It may help to ask yourself the following questions for each of the sections of your goals:

What is it that you want?

Not what you "should" want but instead what YOU want.

What makes you feel alive?

What leaves you feeling on fire? Like a badass?

What do you want to experience more of?

What do you want to drop and let go?

What habits support you? Can you improve upon them?

What is it you're hoping to achieve in this life?

What is your purpose? How can you achieve this?

Hopefully some of these questions get the wheels turning. If not, another trick I sometimes use is setting a timer for 3-5 minutes and in each goal section, I write whatever the fuck comes up, without judgement, scribbling words out as they come. After the timer goes off, I move to the next goal section. Once all are complete, I then review and most likely rewrite because I like it to look all pretty.

Reviewing Your Goals

Set a reminder in your calendar to review your goals at least quarterly. Why? Because without doing so we are aimlessly wandering and often times lose sight of our goals. Checking in with yourself will help you remain accountable.

Tell 3 people about your goals

That includes me! Tell me your fitness goals so I can help you achieve them! If you are unsure of what is an achievable goal, reach out and ask me. I can help set realistic, achievable goals for you in regards to fitness. This is after all, my passion!
